HOW THEOCRACIES FORM
When scripture and religious leaders are believed to have absolute authority, fact-based reasoning goes by the wayside. This is called religious fundamentalism, and it spreads from generation to generation by replacing logic with blind obedience. Over time, these teachings can spread to schools and families, planting deep roots in young, impressionable minds.
On a fundamental level, a theocracy forms when a government is ruled by religious leaders who claim to be connected with the divine. As a result, they create inflexible rulings based on overly literal interpretations of scripture.
Using this justification, they repress contrasting ways of life. The absolute authority of these leaders, known as religious fundamentalism, then dictates all aspects of life.
